Lesson 3 of 4
Copywriting: words that make people act
2 min read
Content informs and builds trust; copy persuades someone to take an action: click, sign up, buy, apply.
Features vs benefits
- Feature: what it is. "Resume parsing with AI."
- Benefit: what it does for the reader. "Fill your profile in 30 seconds, not 30 minutes."
- Ask "so what?" until you reach a benefit the reader cares about.
Frameworks
AIDA: Attention, Interest, Desire, Action.
Attention: Tired of applying to 100 jobs and hearing nothing? Interest: On HireSol, companies hire through short real-world tasks. Desire: Your work gets scored and seen, no matter which college you're from. Action: Find a task-based job today. It's free.
PAS: Problem, Agitate, Solution. Name the problem, make the reader feel its cost, present the solution.
4 Us for headlines: useful, urgent, unique, ultra-specific.
Before–After–Bridge: life now, life after, how you get there.
Headlines
Most people read only the headline. Techniques: numbers ("7 mistakes that get resumes rejected"), how-to, questions, specific outcomes and timeframes, curiosity gaps (without clickbait that disappoints). Write 10–20 options, then choose.
Calls to action
Specific and value-focused: "Get my free resume review" beats "Submit". Reduce risk next to the button: "No credit card needed", "Takes 2 minutes".
Copy by format
- Ads: hook in the first line, one benefit, proof, CTA; respect character limits (Google headlines: 30 characters; descriptions: 90).
- Landing pages: a headline with the main promise, a subheadline explaining how, benefits, social proof (testimonials, numbers, logos), objection handling (FAQ), a repeated CTA.
- Product descriptions: who it's for, key benefits, specs, a sensory or usage scenario.
- UX writing (microcopy): buttons, errors, empty states and onboarding. Clear, short, helpful: "Password must be at least 8 characters" beats "Invalid input".
Persuasion with integrity
Use social proof, authority, scarcity and reciprocity honestly. Fake urgency, invented reviews and misleading claims break consumer law (and ASCI's advertising code in India) and destroy trust.
