Lesson 4 of 5
Social media, content and email marketing
2 min read
Social media marketing
- Choose platforms where your audience is: Instagram and YouTube (broad, visual, young), LinkedIn (B2B, careers), X (news, tech), WhatsApp (direct communication, very strong in India), ShareChat/Moj (regional language audiences).
- Plan a content calendar with content pillars (education, entertainment, behind the scenes, social proof, promotion: keep promotion around 20%).
- Formats: short-form video (Reels, Shorts) gets the most reach; carousels for saves and education; stories for daily engagement; lives for community.
- Track: reach, engagement rate (engagements ÷ reach or followers), saves and shares (strong signals), profile visits, link clicks, follower growth, and conversions from social.
- Community management: reply quickly, handle complaints publicly with empathy and move details to DMs.
Influencer marketing
Nano and micro-influencers (1k–100k followers) often have higher engagement and trust than celebrities. Check audience fit and authenticity (engagement quality, audience location), give a clear brief with creative freedom, require disclosure (#ad) as per ASCI guidelines, and track with unique codes or links.
Content marketing
Create useful content that attracts and nurtures your audience: blogs, guides, videos, webinars, case studies, newsletters. Map content to funnel stages and search intent, repurpose one piece into many formats, and measure traffic, engagement, leads and assisted conversions.
Email and WhatsApp marketing
Email remains one of the highest-ROI channels.
- Build the list with consent (lead magnets, sign-ups); segment by behaviour and interests.
- Automations: welcome series, abandoned cart, post-purchase, re-engagement, birthday offers.
- Metrics: delivery rate, open rate (less reliable since privacy changes), click rate, conversion rate, unsubscribe and spam complaint rates.
- Good practice: a clear subject line, one main call to action, mobile-friendly design, personalisation, testing subject lines, sending at sensible frequencies.
- WhatsApp Business API: high open rates; use for order updates, reminders and opted-in offers; respect opt-in and frequency.
